Who can apply for an Aadhar card?

Any resident of India, regardless of age or nationality, can apply for an Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar program is not limited to Indian citizens; it is open to all residents who have been residing in India for a specified period of time.

The eligibility criteria for applying for an Aadhaar card are as follows:

1. Indian residents: Any individual who has been residing in India for a minimum period of 182 days in the year preceding the date of application can apply for an Aadhaar card.

2. Children: Even newborns and children can apply for an Aadhaar card. Parents or guardians can enroll their children for Aadhaar by providing their own Aadhaar details.

3. Nonresident Indians (NRIs): NRIs who have lived in India for more than 182 days in the year preceding the date of application can also apply for an Aadhaar card. They need to provide their Indian address and other required documents for enrollment.

It's important to note that Aadhaar is voluntary, and no one is obligated to enroll for an Aadhaar card. However, Aadhaar is increasingly used for various services and government schemes, so having an Aadhaar card can be beneficial in terms of accessing those services and availing the benefits associated with it.

To apply for an Aadhaar card, individuals need to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center and provide the required documents and biometric information, including fingerprints and iris scans.
