Can I use BHIM on a feature phone or do I need a smartphone?

To use the BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app, a smartphone is typically required as the app is primarily designed for Android and iOS devices. However, in addition to the BHIM app, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has also introduced the 99# service, which allows users to access basic banking services including money transfer and balance inquiry using Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) technology.

The 99# service can be accessed from any mobile phone, including feature phones, by dialing 99# and following the instructions on the screen. It does not require internet connectivity but relies on a menubased system for performing transactions. Through 99#, users can link their bank accounts, check balance, transfer funds, and perform various other banking functions.

So, if you have a feature phone, you can use the 99# service to access basic banking services. However, for a more comprehensive and userfriendly experience, the BHIM app on a smartphone is recommended.
